MANTL Skincare

On our gaydar…

We spoke with the folks over at MANTL Skincare, co-founded by Emmy-nominated host of Queer Eye Karamo Brown, to learn what product they would recommend to a skincare newcomer:

“Everyone, no matter their age, race, or sex, should be wearing SPF every single day, which is why MANTL launched the Invisible Daily SPF 30. It is completely clear, so it is incredibly fast and easy to apply, and there is no annoying white cast. It glides on smoothly, and doesn't leave you feeling oily or greasy in the slightest. If you are only going to add one item to your skin care regimen, make it this one.”

What should we know about having a good skincare routine:

“A very simple daily skin care regimen can address many skin issues, such as breakouts, uneven skin tone, oily skin, and dry, flaky skin. Dermatologists recommend starting with a cleanser, moisturizer, and SPF for everyone.

You don't need to cleanse your face two times a day, and in fact, that can lead to irritation and drying out the skin. It is ideal to cleanse once at night before going to bed. That will remove dirt, pollution, acne-causing bacteria, and excess oil from the surface of the skin. You want to look for a gentle and pH-balanced cleanser that will keep your skin from getting irritated.

Next, apply a little moisturizer, morning and night. For this, you want to ensure you are using something non-comedogenic, meaning it won't clog your pores. Even if you feel like you have oily skin, a lightweight moisturizer is highly recommended. That's because 9 times out of 10, when your skin is oily, it's because it is actually dry, and your skin is over-producing oil to try to hydrate itself. A good moisturizer will help balance that out.

Lastly, apply SPF every day, even when it's cloudy or you aren't planning to go outside. UVB rays, which cause the skin to age prematurely and develop skin cancer, travel straight through clouds and windows.”
